Plein Aire Painting

Presented by LeMoyne Arts at LeMoyne Arts Education Center

Plein Air painting is a term used to describe the act of painting outdoors. This class will introduce the student to the art of painting landscapes outdoors. In this class, we will work partly in the LeMoyne Arts gardens and the buildings in that area. Later we will decide with the other class members if we want to try some other location(s). With music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, this classic ballet stands the test of time with its elegance and medieval beauty.  Based on the story of the Brothers Grimm, Princess Aurora is bestowed with blessings and a curse as a baby. One hundred years later, she is awoken by the kiss of Prince Désiré and they immediately fall in love. The royal wedding ensues with fairytale guests such as Puss in Boots and the White Cat. Reflections and Reckoning: Brown v. Board of Education at 70.

The Brown v. Board of Education decision, issued unanimously by the Supreme Court of the United States on May 17, 1954, was a watershed in American jurisprudence. We take a look back at the circumstances that compelled the five groups of plaintiffs in the case and the impact that the decision had on our community and throughout the South, then and today. Works include paintings, photographs, and photojournalism. Featured artists are Debra Ambush, Ted Ellis, Tavani Williams, and Melvin McCray.
